My story
Hi 👋 I'm Max, and I'm autistic.
I'm going to be vulnerable here because I believe it's important. I didn't always know that I was autistic, and it's been a hard journey! Being autistic affects every part of my life, and so often because I mask so much, the intensity of my struggle with daily adult life goes unseen. I'm often misunderstood, and there are only a couple of people in my life who really see me for who I am, which can be quite painful. There are a lot of roadblocks in life for me- things aren't always accessible, I get really fatigued by the amount of processing my brain and nervous system have to do, my levels of mental and physical energy are low, and I get overstimulated to the point where it's painful.
I don't say these things for pity, but to express my reality without shame, and for other people to understand.
There are beautiful things about being autistic, too. I'm highly creative, passionate, and intuitive. I see things other people don't, and I'm highly empathetic and sensitive to other people's experiences. I'm proud of being autistic, and so this Autism Acceptance Month (April 2025), I'm fundraising for the National Autistic Society by doing a 10k walk!
❤️ I'm walking to help improve autistic people's mental health
💜 I’m walking to help improve education for young autistic people
💙 I’m walking to help improve workplaces for autistic people
💚 I’m walking to help reduce loneliness and isolation among autistic people
💛 I’m walking to celebrate Autism Acceptance Month!
Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated and will be going towards creating a better society for autistic people and their families.
